The latest doorbell camera clip to delight the internet involves an unsuspecting mother-in-law. Posting to TikTok on 13 August, user adejohnlea shared footage of the prank he played on his partner’s mom, involving star jumps and some spinning around.

Smart Homes

For many consumers, protection is a big factor when purchasing a smart device. Homecare company Hippo conducted a survey of 1,000 smart tech fans and found that 16 percent reported using their device for protection and security. Some 17 percent used their device to monitor their home while away, with 31 percent owning a security camera and 16 percent a video doorbell.

It is predicted that by 2025, there will be 482.9 million “smart homes” across the globe. In fact, 46 percent of American consumers hope to install smart devices in their current or future home.

‘Absolute Gold’

In the footage, adejohnlea’s mother-in-law can be seen walking around the couple’s house. Suddenly, the camera starts to speak to her in a woman’s voice, saying: “This is Ring monitoring, we have reports of movement in this building.

“To prevent an alert being triggered, could you please follow these steps.”

The camera’s first instruction is to jump up and down, which the mother-in-law does immediately. It then asks her to do star jumps, before spinning around in a circle and taking a bow.

Once the routine is complete, adejohnlea switches to his own voice to say: “Thanks, bye.” Releasing she’s been pranked, the mother-in-law shouts “you p****” at the camera.

TikTok users found the clip hilarious, with the post receiving almost 38,000 likes and over 1,600 shares.

“That’s classic,” said iainsimmonds.

“Absolute gold,” agreed Jim Richardson.

“Love her commitment to the cause,” wrote Juddy.

While Stefanie Rimmer-Come commented: “The whole time she’s thinking something isn’t quite right…but I’m gonna do it anyway.”
