Rooms: The 85 rooms and 10 suites range from about $400 to $2,900 a night. Comfortably minimalist, each features a plush queen-size bed, iPod dock and DVD player, flat-screen TV, Jacuzzi and glass-enclosed rain shower, all set against soothing shades of off-white and natural wood. Large porthole windows extend the Unique’s visual metaphor of a luxury ocean liner.
Dining: The rooftop SKYE restaurant and bar is the kind of trendy setting in which pampered Paulistas love to preen. A DJ spins laid-back beats, while patrons crowd around the outdoor pool and indoor lounge area. The menu is nouvelle Brazilian cuisine, featuring such dishes as steamed filet of sole in champagne and caviar sauce with yam purée ($43).
Bar: The Wall Bar is the highlight of the Unique’s soaring marble-and-glass lobby, with rows of bottles rising more than six meters into the air. Sample some cachaça, the industrial-strength Brazilian spirit distilled from sugar cane, in a caipirinha, flavored with fresh passion fruit, kiwi, pineapple or litchi ($10).
