Talk about a hotel that comes with baggage. Hitler schmoozed with unsavory characters like Goebbels and Mussolini nearby. He even penned portions of “Mein Kampf” during stays in the same mountains. Hotel operators want potential guests to envision the hiking and skiing possibilities, but local Jewish groups are more worried about the Nazi tourism probabilities. Fear has stopped similar development before. Bavarian authorities blew up Hitler’s chalet in 1952 to ward off neo-Nazi admirers. Developers this time should take note. If they can’t address opponents’ concerns, heated protests could blow this project straight out of the Alps, too.
