“As the Big 12 evaluates its options for expansion, Texas Tech welcomes the consideration of the University of Houston,” incoming president Lawrence Schovanec said in a statement released Friday. “We have always valued our partnerships with UH.”

Schovanec’s statement is the latest show of support from inside the state for Houston’s candidacy. Thursday, University of Texas president Greg Fenves and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott chimed in on the subject.

The conference currently only has 10 schools, but is looking to expand, most likely, to at least 12 teams. Houston, along with BYU, are two of the most-favored schools in regards to Big 12 expansion. Cincinnati and Memphis have also received support from the conference.
