Anyone who’s played “Call of Duty” knows that squadding up with the boys (or ladies) is much more enjoyable than having a team full of randos. As it turns out, the Chiefs found that out on the Friday night.
The Chiefs haven’t exactly been bad on offense, but they’ve also lacked a certain something. After Sunday, they may have found it, and there may be a reason for the big performances. According to wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster, “Call of Duty” may have been the missing ingredient.
He explained how he and other Chiefs, including Patrick Mahomes, bonded over the game on Friday:

Believe it or not, communication does play a big part in winning “Warzone” or any type of online game. How that translates to an NFL offense is an inexact science, but the proof might be there for Kansas City.
The Chiefs had their way with the 49ers defense, one of the NFL’s best units, in the 44-23 win. Of note: Smith-Schuster had 124 of Mahomes’ 423 passing yards, while Valdes-Scantling (111 yards) and Travis Kelce (98 yards) also had big days. Credit “Call of Duty” for that, apparently.
Mahomes said he doesn’t often play “Call of Duty,” but had an opportunity on Friday, leading to the back-to-back-to-back wins — and the Chiefs’ best offensive performance of the 2022 season on Sunday.
If this is the start of something, Andy Reid might want to add “Warzone” to the Chiefs’ OTA schedule in 2023.
