To begin using Cross Save visit Bungie’s Activation page. The first step is to sign in to all applicable platform accounts, which can be done by clicking the “Authenticate” button for each individual platform account and logging in. This will link multiple Destiny 2 save accounts across PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Battle.Net and Steam. Stadia support will also be available once Destiny 2 launches on the games streaming platform later this year.
Once multiple Destiny 2 accounts are linked, the next page directs you to “Choose Your Active Characters.” There is no way to pick and choose Guardians from multiple platforms. Instead players with multiple Destiny 2 accounts must designate one to act as their Active Account. The Guardians on that account will become the characters you use on every other linked platform.
While progress and Guardian character levels will now be synced between multiple systems, not everything in Destiny 2 can be transferred with Cross Save. Any purchases, including DLC and the in-game currency, Silver, will remain platform-specific. This means players will only have access to content in expansions like Forsaken and the upcoming Shadowkeep on the platform for which the DLC was purchased. Accessing the expansion’s content on other platforms will require purchasing the DLC for each connection platform.
Only Guardians and their Collections of items acquired in the game will move with you across platforms. Most gear won in DLC will also cross platforms, even when playing a platform where players don’t own the DLC. For example, Forsaken gear earned on PC can carry over to play on a PlayStation 4 with only the base game. The exception is PlayStation exclusive gear, those even if this restriction will be lifted once the upcoming expansion Shadowkeep launches on October 1.
Your Active Account can only be included in a single Destiny Clan, which will become your Clan on all platforms. While progress on Clan objectives can be made on any platform, you will only be able to play with Clan teammates who are currently online on the same platform. Crucially, Cross Save is not cross-platform play, which is currently unavailable for Destiny 2. While players will now be able to play the same Guardians across multiple platforms, they will not be engaging with players on other platforms in-game.
Cross Save will be particularly crucial for anyone playing Destiny 2 with a Battle.Net account, since Bungie will only support Destiny 2 until October 1. After that date, Battle.Net players will have to migrate their Guardians to Steam.
Should players like to return to Guardians stored on a save account other than their designated Active Account, which would otherwise inaccessible, it is possible to disable Cross Save. However, there will be a 90-day waiting period before Cross Save can be re-enabled.
The new Cross Save feature launches right in time for experienced players to gear up for Shadowkeep and for new players to transfer their Destiny 2: New Light accounts to whichever device they’d prefer, including phones, when Destiny 2 launches for Google’s Stadia games streaming platform.
